Representatives from the Ubuntu Flavors along with various Canonical and community leads met on November 10th 2025 to discuss the upcoming release of Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute Raccoon among other desktop and flavor developments:
Introductions
@ilvipero kicked off both sessions with a few reminders of the basic rules of flavor sync meetings.
More information about the Ubuntu flavor sync meetings can be found on this announcement post .
Flavors roundable
- Round table - Kubuntu
- Kubuntu static website is live, there was an issue with letsencrypt certificate. All issues have been resolved and the new static site is live. Kubuntu.com redirect needs to be completed, as well as a few other dns records.
- Any questions or tasks before the old wordpress is shut down?
- Council elections to replenish active council members.
- Round table - Lubuntu
- Lubuntu on track and no big issues, technically speaking
- Lubuntu short on contributors, could enjoy more hands on deck
- Xubuntu static website
- We would like to offer @bluesabre and the team help so that Xubuntu can also be migrated to a static site before the end of the year.
- Round team - Studio
- All going well
- Round team - Budgie
- Challenges broken packaging coming from Debian, and MOTU help would be required to uplocad packages to fix, but this should be in the archive ASAP, just after Christmas.
- @eeickmeyer recommends @fossfreedom to apply for MOTU.
- Short term Rik Mills, @teward @arraybolt3 and @eeickmeyer can help on the Ubuntu side of things.
Ubuntu Flavor spec
This will be shared with flavor representatives and should not be shared externally at this point. This is only because it is still going under review. Let’s reach an agreement first and then @ilvipero will publish it on the Ubuntu Discourse/Wiki/etc.
Flavor/Dev/Maintainer contributor pathways
There is an agreement that we need to do better to encourage and guide more contributors into Ubuntu and its flavors. @rbasak recommends to work with @jchittum and @paelzer to help out drafting. @aaronprisk is tracking this and will focus on this pathway in the cycle.
- @mike-mikowski mentioned that there are well defined packaging and dev related docs done by the KFocus team, and Michael is happy to share with the community as long as they are well maintained.
- @mike-mikowski mentions hardware refresh and upstream changes which require currently PPAs or other methods to stay in place.
- @rbasak notices that there are already processes for these scenarios and if flavors need better understanding, a discussion should happen
- @mike-mikowski confirms that one of the main issues are timelines, SRU and kernel enablement.
