Representatives from the Ubuntu Flavors along with various Canonical and community leads met on July 13th 2026 to discuss the upcoming release of Ubuntu 26.10 Stonking Stingray among other desktop and flavor developments:

Launchpad issues

  • Launchpad issue with CD-Image
    • This is affecting all builds, including Ubuntu and all flavors.
    • The issue is being looked at for several days. Edit: The issue was resolved on July 14th, 2026.

Flavors round table

  • Ubuntu MATE:
    • Daily build ISOs have started to build once again, since the last meeting.
    • The team is focusing on packaging efforts.
  • Ubuntu Cinnamon
    • Debian theme by default on grub packages.
    • Cinnamon packages marked as autorm in Debian for libgnomekbd deps - contacted upstream.
    • Lightdm:
      • Request to disable Canonical CLA checks now that it is in the ubuntu github org. Edit: The CLA checks have been disabled on July 14th, 2026.
  • Lubuntu
    • Wayland session with miriway (opt-in) - no customizations for server-side decorations. Sddm & calamares fixes in progress.
  • Ubuntu Studio
    • No ISO yet - dependencies issues with needed multimedia related packages.
    • By the time dependencies issues were resolved, Studio was affected by the launchpad build issues. Edit: Ubuntu Studio confirmed first build completed on July 14, 2026.
  • Kubuntu
    • IMPORTANT for other flavors: PackageKit Bug: downgrades from pinning no longer possible Not a Discover bug.
    • Incoming “bullet-proof” KDE Plasma Gear, Frameworks initiative; soon to announce.
    • Incoming Plasma 6.6.6 SRU thanks to Rik Mills!
    • Discover enhancement work should start in a month.
  • Ubuntu Unity:
    • The team received many bug reports and is slowly starting to address them.
    • Aiming to make Lomiri installable alongside default Unity Desktop. The team found the conflicts and will start fixing those soon.
    • A dependency on Cinnamon session components will be dropped from Unity Desktop.

Flavor Spec

  • The Community Council has been working with the Canonical Community Team on a spec to define flavors definitions, their requirements, perks, and workflows. A large portion of both sessions were dedicated to discussing this spec with all flavor representatives who joined the meetings. Additional flavor sync meetings have been scheduled in August to push this task forward. Once finalized, the details will be made public.

Ubuntu Flavor Sync Meetings take place every 2 months on the second Monday of January, March, May, July, September, November. There are two sessions, 3PM UTC and 10PM UTC, to best accommodate our global community.
