Ubuntu Concept ♥️ Snapdragon X Elite

Could we get this into the x1e-repo? It seems like even Ubuntu 26.04 will ship with 0.5

I can see if I can backport it. In 26.04 it is currently stuck in -proposed according to libcamera package : Ubuntu. I’ll see if I can find out why

EDIT: The raspberry pi team is working on getting 0.7 promoted for 26.04

As a temporary fix you might be able to get something from here:

I don’t really understand how NixOS works, but they managed to remove the green tint (I think this discussion is before libcamera 0.7 was released)

Funny, with the v4l2loopback module (see post a few weeks back) I was able to get browsers to see the camera, but it was as you say, tinted green and also very stroby.

qcam tool from libcamera (0.5 from Ubuntu 25.10 that I’m running) works OK though, directly, no v4l2loopback needed. Edit: my bad, the strobing is also on qcam, but it was not doing that yesterday. I’m not sure whether I only tried it in the office or also at home, maybe it was OK there and it’s reacting to the office lights. Actually, I did some testing - when I start the camera it’s green and dark, then the white balance fixes itself and then it starts strobing. Standing in front of a brown/black wall it’s OK.

In other news, suspend seems to finally work on 6.19 (the LED on the lid is breathing)! Doesn’t always trigger when closing the lid, but selecting it manually seems to work. I’ll report on the power usage in a few days. I noticed it working yesterday but then I just closed the laptop and haven’t checked, when I took it out of the bag this morning it was not suspended.

(this is on t14s, 32GB OLED)

6.19.0-13.13 should fix the kernel parts

libcamera is also in the ppa now but I haven’t tested it yet

anything on the lenovo ideapad slim 5x 14Q9X9 (snapdragon x plus chip)

I have a sp11 oled 12 cores currently running arch linux using dwinham kernel modification on a 7.0.0-rc2.

I want to try ubuntu concept on this machine but can’t get a working iso to boot from a usb stick.

I installed ventoy and tried multiple iso pointed in this thread but none are working (I get grub loading but then blank screen and keyboard is non responsive).

Is there anyone that has a current ubuntu iso working with an SP11 Oled?

I am also confused with the different kernel and iso creation, can someone point me to a guide to build my own iso for installing ubuntu, this way I would be able to compile a kernel or at least start using the one from dwinham to figure out which part is working and which one is not.

Some tests. Camera working with:

$ gst-launch-1.0 libcamerasrc ! video/x-raw,width=1024,height=768 ! autovideosink

Nevertheless, errors detected with:

$ cam -l
[0:35:48.691751894] [15994] INFO Camera camera_manager.cpp:340 libcamera v0.7.0
[0:35:48.702219794] [15997] ERROR V4L2 v4l2_subdevice.cpp:1201 ‘ov02c10 3-0036’: Unable to get rectangle 2 on pad 0/0: Inappropriate ioctl for device

…

With cheese, I get similar error messages.

If you can provide me some pointers for further debugging, I’ll gladly do it.

Hmm there’s my extended ISO with a boot menu enry for this device (latest with daily image from 02/21/26). And there’s a discussion running on my repo re these devices. Maybe worth a try. Ventoy is a good workaround if keyboard is stuck.

There seems to be an issue re detachable keyboard and Surface devices. Try booting without it, with external USB keyboard. I don’t have Surface devices here so I can’t really test.

Unfortunately I haven’t had time to take a closer look at the Galaxy Book yet

There has been some progress on the steam snap for Snapdragon laptops if anyone wants to give that a try Call for Testing: Steam snap for arm64

I have been running yoga7x for a while now, but I noticed that chromium sandbox stopped working in 6.19.0-9-qcom-x1e, and in 10… When i revert back to 6.19.0-3-qcom-x1e it seems to work fine.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

May I ask: do you have speakers, mic, camera and nightlight working, and is power management okay? I have a Dell XPS 13 9345, I’ve enabled all updates, but I haven’t made progress.

Edit: Apologies, I hadn’t seen Tobias’s comment, which you were replying to.

@alexvinarskis has a repo for the XPS 9345, and afaict its pretty good support.

Speakers don’t work, but if you plug in external speakers or earphones you do get sound. Camera is disabled as I was getting issues with it on an earlier kernel, and haven’t re-enabled. Power is far better than it was but there is still room for improvement. My laptop is plugged in the majority of the time, but when running on battery alone there is power leakage. If its left in standby overnight it will completely run out of power.

I’ve tested it, I only ran ‘megabonk‘, it ran pretty poorly (way worse than windows) but it did start, I was impressed! That’s some really awesome software!
I’m not sure how to check if it was using the proper compatibility layers (like fex).

EDIT:

After upgrading to edge, It genuenly runs as well (if not better) than windows!!! Crazy work!!!
After playing megabonk for a bit, all graphics set to maximum, getting a constant 30fps (at 2880x1920). Never got it that good on windows, seriously impressive.

Would love to be able to use fex outside of steam so i can run apps from lutris/other using it!
