As promised, it brings the SP11 in-tree enablement:
Touchscreen — in-tree phase55/MSHW0485 driver
Foundational pen support — G6 HEAT pen pipeline on top of the MSHW0485 G6 HEAT frame export (userspace pen processing)
Full volume rocker support — both volume-up and volume-down working on-device
Plus the wsa884x PA-recovery profile, DP/DWC3 fixes, and 7.2.x kernel/Ubuntu tracking
A couple of follow-ups (pen tap parity, DMIC clock) are still in flight, but the core foundation is ready for your review. Thanks again for the base to build on!
Did an "apt update” and “apt upgrade” today then tried upgrading to various kernels:
Good news: 7.1.9-jg-0-nostubble is working well with HDMI video and audio output and with laptop speaker audio output (in EL1 mode) and /dev/kvm (in EL2 mode).
However 7.2.0-jg-0-nostubble is not so good: no HDMI video or audio (although the settings think they are there, nothing displays or sounds). Also had a couple of occasions where system disk was flipped into read-only mode.
(Also 7.0.0-30-generic displays on HDMI video but no sound on HDMI or laptop speakers and no EL2 mode)
So I think I’m good to go to upgrade my laptop from 7.1.3-jg-0-nostubble to 7.1.9-jg-0-nostubble.
I’m on a zenbook a14 32GB too, and everything is working for me (except kvm and s2idle at this point, but those are not priority for me).
Didn’t need to patch or compile anything, just hardcode the dtb in grub and extract the firmware from the windows partition. My laptop has a x1e78100, does yours have a different chip?
Hi, x1p-42-100 is a different SoC (Purwa) than x1e-78-100 (Hamoa). Hamoa device trees are incompatible with Purwa devices, although they may be otherwise the same. There is a device tree for the Zenbook A14 Purwa afaik, might be that you need to explicitly choose it. You could try the extended Resolute ISO which has menu entries for a lot of the more quirky (not stubble-supported) devices.
After long painful day of trying to get it working I managed to get it working. I have pretty much everything working apart from the camera, Iris/HW decoder and EC. I just used the generic 26.04 and updated the kernel to 7.2, last time I tried this version it wasn’t out yet and it helped a lot.
Well that’s actually quite great. Iris is a b*tch, need to sort this out more. EC will be some extra code (although I guess @alexvinarskis has support for this), @iamsppidy dis quite a lot of camera work. Enjoy the state of the art arm64 Linux laptop
arm64 linux is… A mess if I have to be honest, but I understand its a slow beginning. If one day we can get option to sort out the fan control that would be solid cause having to restart the laptop just to stop making it LARP like its a jet engine is getting tiring
Install EC driver. That should rectify it (if already implemented). I have the opposite, install EC driver on Ideapad Slim3x and get treated to constant fan
And re slow beginning: true. I’m 3 years in, and happy on most devices. All my actually-in-use devices have the things I find useful, but it was quite the learning curve (and a lot of hacking, because who else would)
Hi @glathe thanks again for display brightness controls on my dell latitude 5455. Do you think there’s a chance of getting proper fan control working? What would be needed ? Is something like this potentially worth trying?
“Potentially worth trying” is a good way to put it. Yes, that should help to get thermal readings (could be that the zone spacing is different). There are (successful) attempts to do full fan control by talking to the EC (on T14s), would be the way to point my hallucinator.
Hello. How is the Ubuntu compatibility work going with the Ideapad Slim 3x?
I tested your latest ISO. What didn’t work for me: touchpad, sound, Wi-Fi (I installed the file that our friend sent here in the discussion and it worked), some hardware information in “resources” is missing.
I believe the most important thing right now is for the touchpad and sound to work.
They’ve done an amazing job, and it sounds great! Please read the release, especially if you’re updating from previous kernels with audio workarounds, so that you can experience the full improvement
Ok so I somewhat got EC working, although not fan profiles.
I found GitHub - serdeliuk/zenbook-a14-EC: EC driver for Asus ZenBook A14 · GitHub which seemed promising only till when trying to build it while on kernel 7.2 I ran into an issue with fixdep and modpost not being built for arm64 but x86-64? So since they were for x86-64 I had to go through the hassle of rebuilding both of them for arm64. EC installed, loaded and now I have full keyboard FN functionality.
My assistant came up with a python script for the zenbook a14 for the keyboard backlight and function keys, and the fan curves. I’d guess the EC is the same on the x1p42100 variant, but maybe not.
Slim3x is a bit special-ish. Touchpad has shared IRQ with the keyboard and is gated by the EC. Sound got resolved, and if you have the brazilian SKU (83TW), the virtual mux works well. My slim3x is a bit neglected atm, the vmux doesn’t work with the Goodix touchpad that I have. But I don’t need a touchpad
Will report when I have something new on that.
