However, when I use voice input on YouTube or ChatGPT web apps:
The microphone works, but the audio quality is very poor.
Words I speak are misinterpreted or distorted.
I know the microphone is detected by the system, but it doesn’t work correctly through the browser.
My questions:
What are the current recommendations for making the microphone work clearly and correctly in browser-based applications (ChatGPT, YouTube, etc.) on Ubuntu 26?
Which PulseAudio or PipeWire settings should I adjust?
Is a tool like pavucontrol necessary, or are there more modern solutions?
I’m looking for practical and up-to-date advice. Thank you!
Adjust the microphone volume setting first and check if it is not too loud or too soft. You might see an option for “microphone boost”, start testing in the first place with the boost off.
Yes, pavucontrol is the tool to adjust the microphone volume in the soundserver.
(There is also alsamixer, or more modern QasMixer to adjust the volume in the driver, but I don’t think you’ll need that. Maybe only as a last resort)
