Ubuntu 26.04 testing

I have an issue in Ubuntu 26.04 and Firefox using the core24 channel.

snap refresh --channel stable/ubuntu-26.04 firefox

The drag and drop feature is not working anymore, trying to use it to upload files/images to multiple sites (tinyjpg, Proton Drive, Google Drive). It also fails in chromium, can somebody confirm if this is a common issue? I will report it if it’s a common failure, or maybe it is a known issue.

I’m on 24.04 so I don’t have firefox core24 version installed, but I do have chromium core24 installed and it works ok. I just did a google image search by dragging and dropping a jpg on the search box and it uploaded and performed the search. Vivaldi, which is also core24 works with drag and dropping a file with Proton Drive as well. So there may be something else besides core24 that causing this issue.

Just to be sure, are you uploading from a visible directory in your home? The snap sandbox will block uploads from e.g. ~/.config and I think also locations outside your $HOME.

Going to revise my comment a bit. With firefox in 24.04 based on core22, you can, in fact, drag and drop files taken from outside of $HOME onto a browser and it will upload to a site like Proton Drive or google image search. I dragged and dropped a couple of pics from /usr/share/backgrounds and /tmp on firefox opened to google image search and it worked. In chromium I got an error message about file not being found. In Vivaldi, it looked like it was going to upload a jpg by displaying a spinner, but after several minutes it never completed.

It fails from my ~/Downloads or ~/Documents , I feel that the issue is not the directory source. And as @gpmitch reviewed, it is also failing in Chrome, but I just made a second test in Chrome and it worked, weird.

In any case, I think that I found the root cause and reported the bug:

$ sudo journalctl -f | grep -i "document-portal"

xdg-document-portal[19947]: error: Invalid id firefox_firefox: Names must contain at least 2 periods

It seems to be an issue from xdg-desktop-portal rules.

In the new version of Ubuntu we will have something similar to flatseal?, getting permission to read snaps to secondary HD/SSD would be very useful and easy for new users this functionality as many new users who migrate from windows like me do not have as much technical knowledge to allow and use the terminal to use secondary SSDs in snaps, and thank you very much for creating the snaps they are very good

When Ubuntu 24.10 was released it came with an application called Security Center. It gave the user control over something called Permissions Prompting. It was experimental in Ubuntu 24.10. The Security Center is in Ubuntu 26.04 LTS - still under development.

I have just tested it using the snap version of Firefox. A dialog box appeared that allowed me to give Firefox access to folders in the /Home folder. Actually, Firefox wanted to access the camera. I set it to do so until the session was ended.

I am hoping that it may be possible to have a snap packaged application such as a music application access music files on another partition.

Here is the original announcement about Security Center and Permissions Prompting and the future intentions.

I’m doing better and better with Resolute. My only issue is with mouse pointer recognition in Snaps (size, etc.). However, I’m writing this because the change in folder icons caught my attention; I think they look quite similar to Adwaita. I know Showtime and Resources will also be getting new icons. Are there any other updates in this area that I’ve missed?

The changes coming to Ubuntu are Gnome Shell wise and should not affect the Yaru icons or sound. So it’s probably a bug and not the first time it happened, someone encountered this a few weeks ago too with the folder icons but that got fixed. Now the problem is back.

At first I thought it was a mistake, that the last update used the standard Adwaita icons from Gnome, but looking more closely I’m not so sure. It has a very Yaru-like touch. I’ll wait to see if they say something. It would definitely be a change.

It’s not known that there will be an icon change, at least not to me. The only change i know of is to the Gnome Shell as i mentioned before to bring it closer to default Gnome:

https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2025/12/ubuntu-26-04-yaru-theme-gnome-shell-changes

It turns out that this will be the default folder icons after all: Add improvements to nautilus icons and folder icons by ochi12 · Pull Request #4359 · ubuntu/yaru · GitHub

Anyone get Transmission to launch?

Yep, just opened it (transmission-qt) and no issues, empty window ready to be told what to do.

If opening up the GTK front end however, there is a known issue - Bug #2137395 “Transmission-gtk refuses to open Due to AppArmor p...” : Bugs : transmission package : Ubuntu as trying that one gets the error that has been talked about awhile back.

@alexmurray has mentioned on that bug report (recently) an AppArmor rule that fixed the issue..

Appreciate the link to the bug report.

A post was split to a new topic: Autoinstall on corporate network

I have encountered many pointer issues in 26.04 in non-native apps (Qt, matlab, flatpak, steam, etc..). The pointer arrow shape does not change based on context (eg. text cursor, pane splitting.. ). Sometimes the clicking does not register or offset.

This appears quite hurdle for me to use it daily. Is this a known issue?

I see changes in the App Center today. I am guessing this is what the road map was referring to about unified package management.

I am seeing this as well - the cursors, especially in flatpaks are not changing properly.

Today’s kernel update messed up grub and Plymouth. Re-installing all the grub packages fixed the issue. Just thought I would share in case anyone else encountered this.
