Today an issue, LP# 2167127, has been reported affecting the Desktop installer for Ubuntu 24.04.5. This issue is causing the installer to crash if the user chooses the extended install option.

This issue only affects the desktop installer with the amd64 desktop installer, so only one artifact.

For excess caution and to prevent poor experience for 24.04.5 Desktop users we pulled down the Desktop ISO from Ubuntu 24.04.5 (Noble Numbat) .

The team has identified the problem and is already working on a fix. We will be respining the desktop image as soon as the fix is reviewed and tested, likely early next week.

In the meantime, Desktop users can still access Ubuntu 24.04.4 and manually update to 24.04.5 and won’t be affected. But the new installs will have to wait for a new image.

For all other images and flavors, Ubuntu 24.04.5 remains the most up-to-date, stable Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release.

Thanks

Following up on my earlier message: the new Ubuntu Desktop amd64 ISO has been rebuilt and released as 24.04.5.1 LTS. It is available to be downloaded from the Noble download page.

This image fixes the installer crash when selecting the Extended selection option (LP: #2167127).

As a reminder, all other 24.04.5 LTS artifacts remain unchanged.

Thanks for your patience, and thanks to everyone involved in identifying, fixing, and testing the issue!
