I tried logging into Ubuntu’s Discourse using .org instead of .com, which accidentally triggered a malicious redirect.
This Site Feedback category really is about this site, the Ubuntu Discourse / Community Hub.
There’s really nothing we, as the Ubuntu community, can do about a malicious site using the Ubuntu name. If it’s infringing on the Ubuntu trademarks, then that’s a different story in which case Canonical Legal can get involved. They aren’t on this Discourse.
It seems curious that the .org domain would be available for pickup by a malicious entity.
Pinging @Community-Team to introduce this to the Canonical platform and domain folks.
It appears to have been reported, because from my end, it has been blocked by “Threat Intelligence Feeds, AI-Driven Threat Detection, and OISD.” It should eventually be closed down.
If in doubt, you can report this sort of thing to your local authorities, whoever they might be.
Great feedback! Super useful to protect the brand. Cc @aaronprisk

From experience, even though defensive domain registration makes sense for large companies, not all of them do it. Some buy every new domain extension as it becomes available, when others do not.
