Trying to get ubuntu 22.04 to stop and ask what to use to boot with

I am trying to get ubuntu to boot with the startup disc creator stick. my last attempt was to change the grub file this is what the parts they said to change:

GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=hidden

GRUB_TIMEOUT=-1

This got it to stop and had options. The one that looked like it was possibly intesting wasn’t. I still cannot get this machine to open the creator when it starts to boot up. I wish there was a way to simply click on it and it turns itself on but, oh well.

Anyway, does anybody know how to force ubuntu to start with a usb is one plugged in?

Thoughts…

You directly boot from UEFI/BIOS one time boot menu. Many brands use F12, but varies by brand.

Some brands also have a separate UEFI setting for allow USB boot or full USB support, in addition to UEFI Secure boot. As allowing another device to boot, would not be totally secure.

My older desktop had many USB boot options, but none worked. It turned out that the USB live installer was seen as another hard drive and setting to choose to boot it was under hard drives.
