Trying to get pp file

Ubuntu Version:

22.04.5

Desktop Environment (if applicable):

gnome

Problem Description:

I have a dymo labelmaker 400 turbo. I have found the pp file I need for this printer. I did that in the settings/printers section. I found the pp file in localhost at dymo:0/cups/model/lw400t.ppd so I have to get it and install it. I need to know how to get it AND install it.

Relevant System Information:

I have no idea what to say here

Screenshots or Error Messages:

What I’ve Tried:

I have tried nothing because I am ignorant.

On the Dymo webpage, https://www.dymo.com/support?cfid=dymo-compatibility-chart , you can search by machine (Labelwriter 400) and software [windows | macOS] There is no choice for Linux.

Added: There does seem to be some driver software for Dymo on github, specifically, https://github.com/dymosoftware/Drivers/tree/main/LW5xx_Linux

Thank you for the reply…

This all started when I started to install and use lprint. I have two dymo printers I use for making labels. I used to use Glabels but that one seems to have gone bad. My thought was to remove my existing dymo printers and reset them and them continue with the lprint program using my dymo printers which lprint is supposed to print on. To do that I went to “printers” on my ubuntu settings - got rid of both my dymo printers and began to re-install. The ppd file that I was trying for I got from an Ubuntu program so I have to believe that the ppd files offered there were good for linux. I am stuck on getting said files to install into each printer.

My two printers and their ppd files are:
LabelWriter-400-Turbo ppd: dymo:0/cups/model/lw400t.ppd
LabelWriter-DUO-Label ppd: dymo:0/cups/model/lw450dl.ppd

Thoughts?

after /System/Printers there is a square to fill in with the following lines:
Name of the printer
the location, ie greg-desktop2
Address: localhost
Driver: filled in after choice (don’t know if this means its installed or not)

Then 3 boxes:
Search for Drivers
Select from Database
Install PPD File

Of the three I choose Select from Database
Then I find the printer and choose the option for the printer

My problem is that I have no idea if it installs the chosen which is why I need to know if a given printer has a driver or not.

Those are your two ppd files for your Dymo devices.
You need to install PPD file - they are on your computer. Look in /etc/cups or one level lower at /etc/cups/ppd
After installation, you should be able to print from your device.

That’s about all the help I can provide; I have never done anything like this before.
good luck
