This is unfortunate for the Mate flavor

And Unity too.

We haven’t seen LTS requalification requests from Ubuntu MATE nor Ubuntu
Unity, so these will release subject to release team approval, and they
will be non-LTS.

That was covered in the last Ubuntu Weekly Newsletter

The lack of flavor [LTS] status mostly impacts release of point release media as I see it, as if problems are discovered, bugs can be filed & team members (ie. Ubuntu MATE, Ubuntu Unity etc, or any MOTU etc) can still SRU fixes during the standard support life of the LTS.

That can actually occur during the full five years of standard support, the flavor teams offer (guarantee) to do it only the three years; so maybe the loss is loss of even a three year guarantee.

My 2c view.

Problems the team is having with lack of contributors isn’t new, and showed last cycle (25.10) I felt. These two flavor teams aren’t the only teams lacking contributors currently either; but lacking contributors is a problem in most voluntary projects

I asked in the Ubuntu Release room on Matrix for help and if we ( Ubuntu Unity) still could apply for a LTS requalification request. Sadly I didn’t get any response at all.
I explained that neither I nor Tobiyo knew about a requalification process until i saw the UWN topic mentioning it. I also told them that Rudra still is absent.

We need Rudra to take care of some things that may take 5 to 10 minutes max, all that needs to be done is providing the right permissions to set up mirroring correctly and some other things so we can move on. At this point we are stuck. We want and need to move forward.

To be honest, i was beyond frustration and disappointment after reading about the LTS requalification requests. I feel that as a project lead one needs to fulfill his/her obligation or step down and let someone else do it. There are certain deadlines to be dealt with but sadly this small task hasn’t been fulfilled by the current project leads for whatever reason.
Real life obligations are one, other or new projects is another. In the latter: make a choice.

At our end, to me and Tobiyo, this feels like a let down because we are dedicated and passionated and working on it to keep our project going. But how are we going to proceed if we don’t get any response from anyone?

Still… We won’t give up that easily.
