Matrix is a decentralized messaging platform that allows users to send messages and participate in conversations across different devices and networks. It’s designed for group chats, similar to apps like WhatsApp or Slack.
There are many different apps that can connect to Matrix. The most popular and feature rich is Element. There are desktop apps for all 3 major operating systems, a web app and mobile apps as well.
To install on Ubuntu just open the App Center and search for Element. Click on install.
There are other Matrix apps in the App Center so if Element doesnt fit your style you can try one of those.
