System Monitor crashes frequently on Ubuntu 24.04 LTS

I’ve always used System Monitor and kept it running on a workspace, to see how my system is running and doing. Sometimes a browser starts running weird, slow and balky. I check on System to find out which Process is causing this and shut it down, to get things running better again. It always ran fine and was very stable on earlier versions of Ubuntu. However on 24.04 it crashes very often.

This never happened before. What may be causing System Monitor to crash so often with 24.04?

Moved to “Support and Help”. This topic does not a discussion about the project, but about a crash. That’s not intentional, and should be resolved with help or made a bug report.

It’s not possible to identify the cause of a crash without more details. Please file a bug with ubuntu-bug gnome-system-monitor.

nteodosio, have a link to do that?

You run the command in a terminal on the system with the issue.

Here is a basic breakdown of what happens:

Step1. enter command in terminal and press Enter

Step 2. apport collects relevant system information including package versions, logs, etc.

Step 3. checks for duplicate reports and if found may suggest adding to them

Step 4. launches the Bug Reporting GUI where you can review and add more details or screenshots etc.

Step 5. uploads the data to Launchpad. If you do not have a Launchpad account you will be prompted to create one

Step 6. after the report is submitted you will receive a URL where you can track progress or add more details in future

In a nutshell, that is what happens.

rubbi1200, did what you suggested above. Will await what happens.

Still getting used to this Discourse way of doing things.
Miss the old Ubuntu Help Forums which seemed much simpler to post and navigate through for help.

I am sure it won’t take too long to get used to the format here.

If you are happy this was resolved, please mark my post as the Solution.

Would be much appreciated and also helps others find the information in future.

OK, will do.
Thanks.
