Problem Description:

Off late my system jams. Jamming as in not responding to mouse gestures or keyboard input (Alt - Tab). My only option in that case is to reboot my system. But after reboot I can not find my Linux installation in the Grub menu. Only after having booted to Windows and rebooting I see it again.

My question: in what log file can I see what happened?

Possible reason: While gaming in Windows my system freezes too. I am told the cause might lay in my NVIDIA card not being able to handle two monitors. But the last time I turned off one of the monitors, and had no luck.

My system freezes all of a sudden. It was stable in the past (2025)

I have run the installer twice using the Software Updater. (3 times now)

What I’ve Tried:
Running Software Updater.

Please limit the use of Software Updater, choose Synaptic.
In a terminal, please show the following

Why?

For the purpose of installing updates they do the exact same thing, the exact same way, under th hood. If instead you suggested the usage of commands like sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
 Now we’re talking.

A like anyway because later you’re also asking the right questions about hardware and GRUB.

If you only want to display the content of the file there is no need for sudo.

Use the cat command instead.

cat /etc/default/grub
