Sudo do-release-upgrade fails on ubuntu based distro

Ubuntu Version

Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Flavors

Desktop Environment (if applicable)

XFCE

Problem Description

When running do-release-upgrade on an ubuntu based distribution, it fails with
“An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.”(see terminal output) I have backups and I don’t mind minor breaking things (like themes breaking etc.)
do-release-upgrade has worked fine (with minimal adjusting) previously when doing upgrade from 22.04LTS to 24.04 LTS.

Relevant System Information

Currently on 24.04 LTS, trying to upgrade to 26.04 LTS.
8GB of RAM, plenty of hdd storage and dedicated /boot partition (that has over 1GB of free storage).
The distribution is called “Linux Lite” and due to being beginner friendly they don’t provide support for release upgrades and instructs to re-install the OS.

Ubuntu is a Linux distribution for your desktop or server. It is fast

excellent applications installed by default, and almost any other
software you can imagine available through the network.

We hope you enjoy Ubuntu.

Could not calculate the upgrade

An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade.

If none of this applies, then please report this bug using the
command 'ubuntu-bug ubuntu-release-upgrader-core' in a terminal. If
you want to investigate this yourself the log files in
'/var/log/dist-upgrade' will contain details about the upgrade.
Specifically, look at 'main.log' and 'apt.log'.

### What I've Tried
I already temporarily uninstalled Rclone and a whiskermenu plugin as advised by the upgrade tool. I have previously tried to upgrade with the -d option, but it failed too (the same way) and I waited for official release.

This Discourse is only for official versions and flavours.

For information purposes, and any other Ubuntu based readers who see this, many Ubuntu based systems will BREAK if you use the Ubuntu release-upgrade tools; their own distro docs warn users of that too.

Many Ubuntu based systems have their own documented commands that achieve the equivalent, as the Ubuntu Release Upgrader tool is encoded for Ubuntu systems only. That tool handles Ubuntu flavors equally well as they’re just Ubuntu systems with a different ‘default’ set of packages & configs built only from Ubuntu repositories.
