Status Update for Ubuntu Mate?

Long time no news of Ubuntu Mate. What - if anything - is happening at the front?

What to do if one runs UM 25.10, l is d I case? Its “normal” life ends in July.

Should I move to another distro? I’ve used UM for a very, very long time and do not find any other Ubuntu flavor particularly attractive.

Any comments welcome.

Yes. That was sometime ago. No news since then.

Not being negative here so don’t assume.

If it were me I’d find an alternative just in case.

I’d never rely on one Linux distro as I’ve seen them come and go.

Ubuntu has always been my favorite Linux distro although I’ve had to move to Ubuntu flavors because of aging computers.

Hopefully some folks will pick up Ubuntu Mate although I’d think about seeking alternatives just in case.

My 2 cents worth.

The process for updating an Ubuntu MATE instance remains the same - you can still upgrade to 26.04 even if there is no official MATE release. That’s because the data remains in the repositories for software versions, etc. independent of the release of ISOs.

Just run sudo do-release-upgrade as normal on the command line.

@lostados I changed the title of your post to something more in line with a support question.

If you want an update, I suggest you read the following written by Thomas/@teward

The only changes that have occurred relate to the new Ubuntu MATE development team members working on the stonking release (26.10), recent evidence of that can be seen here which will hopefully mean we have a daily or monthly snapshot 2 available soon of stonking (what will be 26.10).

There has been, no change for 26.04, nor is any expected; it’s already been released (Ubuntu MATE didn’t apply for LTS status thus no point release media is expected either). The lack of install media really only impacts ‘new installs’ (and that can be worked around anyway).
