When did LightDM enter this topic? According to the OP it should be GDM3. From my understanding, flickerfree boot is only possible with tight integration and the right hardware. As far as I’m aware, LightDM can’t do flickerfree, even if you try.

If it doesn’t work out-of-the-box, don’t bother trying to “fix” it, @sss-xxx; there is nothing you can do about it, unless you’re a kernel/GPU hacker, that is.

Maybe see if you’re even using the i915 driver, because newer Intel iGPU’s are Xe and thus might nowadays default to the respective driver. This command should help you find out:

lsmod | grep -E '^(i915|xe)'
