Thanks Norbert. Synaptic is a great tool, but both of the two Synaptic “missing recommends” that I have installed have ended up leaving me with broken packages and having to take much time to sort out the problem. HPlip was one, the other one was Adobe flash. The result is that I regard Synaptic’s “Missing recommends” with justified suspicion. If the system recommends buggy packages, then the system’s reliability is suspect.
