I’ve been following the traffic in the ubuntu-devel and ubuntu-devel-discuss mailing list regrading fixes for the 25.04 release. So far, there doesn’t seem to be anything about the incompatibility of the snap-store and security app in displaying graphics with the non-free Nvidia drivers under the X11 server. Is this '“Unable to create GL context” error going to be fixed before release or is X11 being treated as partially deprecated at this point? We are only four days from release.
Did you file a bug ? What is the status on it ?
The bug apparently already exists…
nvidia drivers cannot be used by snaps in x11 mode
The issue was apparently fixed upstream on April 1st…
Fix included in snapd 2.69
Changed in snapd:
milestone: none → 2.69
status: In Progress → Fix Committed
I was able to get this fix on my Ubuntu 25.04 installation using…
sudo snap refresh --channel=latest/edge snapd
to install
latest/edge: 2.68.4+g255.4f295d1 2025-04-12 (24550) 51MB -
FYI, this breakage also exists in current Ubuntu 24.10.
snapd
requires a lot of coordination to update as there’s a Snap package component and a .deb
package component that have to be updated simultaneously, so I hate to say this, but you’re going to have to be patient.
I’ve confirmed also that the installing snapd from latest/edge on Ubuntu 24.10 also eliminates the GL context failures.
snapd is a rolling package with a standing SRU exception, 2.69 will be available across all Ubuntu releases down to 16.04 once it passed all tests, just be patient as Erich said, it will show up on 25.04 even after release day…
