Hi folks! This post is my self-nomination for a seat in the upcoming elections for the Ubuntu Community Council.
I’ve been a part of the Ubuntu community for 15+ years by now, and have helped with some projects such as:
- Chairing UbuConLA, as well as helping with advocacy around the world
- Helping other regions organize their UbuCons
- Former member of the LoCo Council
- One of the first non-Canonical Juju charmers!
- Part of the (beloved but now gone) Ubuntu Beginners Team
- Moderating our LinkedIn official group
- Authoring two editions of the Official Ubuntu Book
- Helped run the Ubuntu News Team
- And much more! (if you get this line, thanks for reading UWN)
Overall, my focus is to make the Ubuntu community a place that is welcoming for everyone, and to make it easy to feel like you are a part of it.
My goal during this upcoming term in the Community Council would be to make it easy to contribute and help along the way. I feel like we may have buried some information (this actually got mentioned recently to me by a newcomer!) and that we could have easier entrypoints for people, both technical and non-technical, to feel part of the community.
I personally believe that communication itself is something that all human beings are always evolving and learning from, and we should take always take those learnings and apply them to all we do. I am also a big believer of “unreasonable hospitality”, and I would like to see everyone get the hospitality I got over a decade ago when I joined the community.
