Hi can any one help me because I am having security problems with my laptop.
There appears to be some one who keeps on having access to my desktop functions such as switching off my laptop.
Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse ![]()
Please describe in detail what is happening.
We need to know Ubuntu version, laptop specifications, when did this start?
The more details you give us, the easier it will be to try and help.
Thanks.
Good day
Thank you for taking time to respond to me highly appreciated.
It started after few days when I had finished installing the Ubuntu operating system 24.04.2 LTS.
I could hear keyboard typing sounds from the laptop before the operating system logged on to open desktop.
My desktop was operating OK up until people who stay next to me started to talk of the activities which i did privately on the computer.
Then the desktop icons would close when someone who is on the other side to where I am staying mentions " shouting that let me close the icon that he has opened".
This happened a couple of times up until it came to a point of me realizing that the was something wrong with laptop.
Even the network connectivity before it disconnects someone will shout," network will disconnect "and it happens the way he says it.
The other problem that I am now facing the mouse cursor is moving on its own without being moved by me on the laptop.
I am using Dell Latitude E6520 laptop.
Please help me because my privacy has been compromised this laptop is the only device that I am able to use to do every personal operations such as job hunting and learning.
Thank you.
A stock install of Ubuntu is secure.
If you believe that your system has been compromised, then reinstall Ubuntu from a clean install media. Then pay close attention to the insecure networks you join, the vulnerable non-Ubuntu applications you install, and the dangerous websites you visit – avoid all of those.
If you believe that your neighbors are hacking or vandalizing your system, and shouting loudly about it, then contact your local police.
