Samba shared folders not accessible

Ubuntu Support Template

Ubuntu Version:

Lubuntu 25.04

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
LXQt on x11

Problem Description

I am successfully using Samba to see files on other networked PCs, which are Windows 10, Peppermint and an old 32-bit Lubuntu laptop.

But none of them can see files on this machine, and crucially it cannot open the network folders set up in smb.conf. Permission is denied.

Is there some other security setting which prevents access to this machine’s network?

From the Network tab it shows the PC’s icon, then folders such as home and public, but none are accessible.

Lubuntu 25.04 is now unsupported because it reached end of life in January 2026.

Supported releases are listed in the section Before asking a question here

Please consider taking your EOL system off the network until you are running a supported release of Ubuntu that is receiving security updates.

Closing: EOL.

If you encounter the same problem with a supported release of Ubuntu, happy to reopen. Just ping any moderator.
