Ubuntu Version: 25.04
Desktop Environment (if applicable): GNOME
Problem Description:
As of today the official do-release-upgrade command allows for an upgrade without the -d flag.
Last week I tried to upgrade with the -d flag and got a crash followed by booting without any desktop environment. I rolled back by by running timeshift off a live USB.
Today I did my daily ritual of running the do-release-upgrade command, and it immediately allows the upgrade, but I noticed that a similar error comes up as when I had issues the last time. That being:
Foreign Packages Installed
The following unofficial packages are currently installed:
gir1.2-javascriptcoregtk-4.1Installed from: unknown origin
gir1.2-webkit2-4.1.......Installed from: unknown origin
libjavascriptcoregtk-4.1-0Installed from: unknown origin
libjavascriptcoregtk-6.0-1Installed from: unknown origin
libwebkit2gtk-4.1-0......Installed from: unknown origin
libwebkitgtk-6.0-4.......Installed from: unknown origin
steam-libs-i386:i386.....Installed from: unknown origin
It is recommended to install supported versions from the Ubuntu
archive, and try the upgrade again.
Do you want to continue the upgrade anyways?
I know that this has been discussed on this thread, but despite being marked “Solved”, here I am getting the error on the officially supported upgrade.
I’m not suggesting that the error relating to that issue caused a broken system, but I am concerned that not enough has changed with the upgrader since the last time I tried.
Should I give it a go? Is there anything to be concerned about? Have people upgraded successfully?
