Rust on Ubuntu shares updates about how we are using the Rust 
programming language on Ubuntu. This update is for updates and news that happened during August 2026.

The initial (beta) versions of the Ubuntu Rust DevContainer are live. There are two flavors:
- Standard - for developing Rust in an Ubuntu DevContainer
- Distro - for developing Rust and Ubuntu distro in an Ubuntu DevContainer
Please give them a try and create a GitHub issue if you encounter any problems.
Rust 1.97.1 will be the default Rust toolchain for Ubuntu 26.10.
Canonical is investing in automated C to Rust translation.
