Restore default nautilus theme

Ubuntu 25.10

GNOME, XFCE,

I recently upgraded to 25.10 from 25.04. everything works well.
I decided to give xfce a run, because why not? :grinning:
However when I go back to Gnome, the icons from the xfce file manager are showing up in nautilus.
I tried to reset the theme in “tweaks”, and checked out the gnome settings.
I ran dconf reset -f /org/gnome/nautilus/ but the icons persist.

Can someone explain how to restore the nautilus icons please?

Please post the entries from /var/log/apt/history.log (or /var/log/apt/history.log.*.gz if needed to go further back) associated with installing Xfce

I actually installed xfce a long time ago, i.e. before the upgrade. Those files are no longer available.

First of all, backup your personal data

Then, open a terminal and enter:-

mv ~/.config/dconf/user ~/Downloads

This will save a copy of the file in your Downloads folder

Next, log out and log in again
dconf user settings now reset to default

Hi. Thank you for the helpful suggestions.
I went for the nuclear option-

Blockquote

sudo apt purge nautilus
sudo apt install nautilus
sudo apt install ubuntu-session

Problem solved! :grinning:
