Resolution in Ubuntu

Firstly - Discourse - what a PITA!
Moved across, have been using ubuntu for years, and couldn’t post. Initially, couldn’t figure out why…
Thanks for the update people!! So, yes, a VERY off-putting introduction - hope it improves…

Anyway, have recently got an issue on an old laptop (Dell Latitude 6510 - Standard Intel graphics??). Was working perfectly up until a month or two back (doesn’t get used a lot…) Went to log in, and almost got to the login screen, but all I got was a mouse cursor, on a black screen. Played with it for a while, then decided, bugger it, just install 24.10…
Went through the process, and all looked good, until I rebooted, and got to the same screen - login screen, but only a mouse cursor near the bottom, right corner.
If I go into recovery mode, then choose to continue (resume), I get to a very low res login, and all works fine, but if I try to just boot, never gets to the login screen…
Thanks.
