Problem Description
I have a PC running Ubuntu 26.04 which I have been accessing from a Windows 11 machine.
The Ubuntu I assume is using Gnome Remote Desktop, and on Windows 11 I am using the standard Remote Desktop app (not the new Windows app..)
It has been working fine, but for last few days every now and then my display goes as per image, and i have to disconnect and reconnect. I checked working directly on the PC and display looks fine, so I assume not a hardware issue, and something else.
Any one seen this or have any ideas? or perhaps can suggest a better way for me to seamlessly connect from Windows 11 to Ubuntu instead of using RDP perhaps??

What are you wanting to do on the remote system? There may be a sleeker solution to what you want to do
Basically have full remote desktop control of it.
More than happy to use something else better than RDP if you have a suggestion?

It is an AI machine, so has several apps on it, some are web based so I can easily access via browser anyway, but others are desktop apps which I need to access on the linux machine. I prefer not to have to connect screen, keyboard and mouse and use it directly as in cupboard. So want full desktop control of it, so RDP, VNC or some other method

If you switch to Xorg at login (if it is available) does your RDP stuff work?
Not possible in GNOME on 26.04 as Xorg is completely removed from GNOME.

As its a display mess in the client, have you tried different display options in the client (lower colours and so on. Different resolutions of the session)?
Yes I have tried adjusting settings such as bitmapcachepersistenable, session bpp
I haven’t tried different resolutions though, so will try that
lower resolution and lower colour depth etc DID NOT solve it.
It is odd, as yesterday it worked for 12 + hours without issue, today it has done it twice in about 2 hours
It also keeps randomly disconnecting me for no reason
Think I need to find something else to use other than RDP perhaps
Could switch to VNC. I bet digital ocean has a guide. Be sure to get one for 26.04 due to the switch to Wayland

Personally think it must be a recent update caused my issue, as had been working fine before then
You could report a bug. If you boot an older kernel does it make a difference?
hadn’t thought of trying older kernel, looks like .30 is default and I have .29 in advanced menu, so could try that. Thanks

Has it been exclusively established that Ubuntu 26.04 is at fault rather than the Windows application?
Can you try the new Windows app?
I can RDP to other devices running Windows without an issue, so yes I assumed it was a Ubuntu issue, but fair point. I will also try the new Windows app
now trying windows app, but remember now why I didn’t like it before
a) annoying prompt shown everytime, which I can avoid with old RDP client
b) not remembering logon credentials for my Ubuntu, so having to select other user and enter them manually each time
But happy to continue and see if it resolves display issue as a test
