Question about proposed nvidia-graphics-drivers-590-open and lack of restricted modules

Ubuntu Version:
25.10

Desktop Environment:
GNOME

Problem Description:
I’ve installed the proposed nvidia-driver-590-open_590.48.01-0ubuntu0.25.10.1 packages to update system from previous 580-open driver.

While updating I noticed that there are no linux-restricted-modules available for 590-open driver (latest are for 580-open driver):

But I saw no problems/errors after update and driver works as expected.

At this point I have this doubt: I don’t know if these restricted modules are not needed anymore starting with 590-open driver or if it’s lack of availability is a mistake.

Thanks and best regards.

If you look at the NVIDIA site itself for drivers, what is available is listed here:

There is no 590 module for Ubuntu because 590 … is not … a “Production” build.

It is only a “New Feature Branch”, meaning that it is still in a “probationary” state before being considered, and rolled over as, the latest “Production” build.

Yep, I know that it’s the “New Feature Branch” when these drivers were released for Ubuntu 22.04+ a week ago. What I want to know is if the restricted modules are not needed anymore or if it’s lack of availability is a mistake.

Problem had been solved a couple of days ago for questing, noble and jammy, and restricted packages for driver 590 are now available. Resolute is still lacking these ATM.

Give them time!
