Ptyxis' Ubuntu theme

I installed Ptyxis since it is the new recommended default terminal for Ubuntu, and it is quite nice to use.

I have one problem however. I was messing around with themes just to look at them, and now I can’t find the Ubuntu theme that it came with. I’ve tried deleting its config folder and reinstalling it, hoping for the default to come back, and it has not. I think it’s unfortunate that the Ubuntu colors are not saved as one of the palettes available so that we can switch back and forth.

How can I restore the default theme?

Ok wow, I found a solution already. I installed dconf-editor, navigated to org/Gnome/Ptyxis, right clicked on Profiles, and chose ‘reset recursively’, which essentially deleted the Profiles folder. That restored the theme. It seems that when you choose any other theme, a profile key is created which stores the name of that theme selection, and this overrides the default.

I hope this is changed in the future to be more user friendly, like having the default theme be one of the palettes so you can change it in the UI rather than having it erased while playing around with the application. At least now I know how to restore it.

Hey there,
Thanks for sharing and finding solution on your own. I appreciate that.

The Ubuntu palette is one of the default options but you probably need to click Show All Palettes to see it. Does that answer your concern?

The full list of palettes is probably too long but I prefer too many choices here rather than none at all. The GNOME Console app doesn’t allow choosing a different palette.

It is one of the default options, until you select another theme. At that point, at least on my system, it disappears until I use the workaround that I described above. Even if ‘Show All Palettes’ is selected. None of the other themes do this. I can select between all of them, but the default always vanishes without resetting it.

I don’t mind having more themes. In fact, I prefer it as there is something for everyone to like.
