Program permissions (GIMP) won't open/access my files

Thanks for your reply @popey… and prior to your next profile pic update, I’ll recommend decaf. ;-D

  • Yes, media is located on a USB flash drive separate from the system m2 device.
  • Snapcrafters is listed as the provider / publisher
  • Did I install the snap… and a deb… and tried to reconcile the two:
  • earlier in this thread, I tried snap (got this error), then tried the deb install (worked), and tried to uninstall the one which wasn’t working… tough to tell them apart; apparently nixed the wrong one, and I’m back where I started.
  • system/settings to apps/GIMP and “Read/write files on removable storage devices” to “on”

testing…

And I can access image files on my USB drive. Thank you!

“Read/write files on removable storage devices” is a rather odd thing to have defaulted to “off” considering the intent and use of the app… Thanks for showing me where options for the apps are. I hope I remember that juicy tidbit the next time I run into app-specific snags.

This was very helpful and I got my gimp to work. Whatever the reasons, something is a little out of whack if an image manipulation program does not have access to external drives (symlinked drive in this case) by default.
