I install gnote yesterday. Today I went into it and could not get into gnote. I looked this one up and there is not much about something like this. So, I have removed that gnote and would like to install a new one but, before I do that I also want to get rid of all the gnotes that are in my system. They seem to go back for years and I tried to delete them and they all seem to belong to root. I tried to do the terminal nautilus thing bit that didn’t do the trick.
Root is in Etc and I cannot get into it to see what is there (probably for the best). But I would REALLY like to get rid of the old gnote stuff before I do a new gnote install. I really need gnote to put stuff into.
OH, apperently Gnote is a Gnome thing. Two of the files I want gone are also Gnome files.
gnote.org.gnome.gnote.png and they are in two places, I have tried to copy and put where they are at but I did, one is in my clipboard, but the clipboard won’t put it here (paste or otherwise).
/var/lib/switchcatalog/icons/ubuntu/nobel_universe/etc (icons with different sizes). Perhaps they are not trouble makers but something was.
All that being said the other file I REALLY want to get rid of is:
/var/cache/apt/archives/gnote_46.0-1_amd64.deb
Which comes from the gnote that I just deleted.
If I do that I have removed all gnotes in the system
It’s helpful if you’re specific with release details (saves us having to do package enquiries to work out what release(s) you maybe using; looks like a noble package you’re asking about…)
That is NOT an installed system, it’s just a package sitting on your disk, which will be cleaned out in due course; though you can speed that process off by forcing that to happen now, ie.
sudo apt autoclean
That file just means if you give a command to re-install the package, it’ll be found locally and thus save having to re-download the file (ie. a local cache)
I am trying to use Gnote. It just dawned on me that there are two Gnotes. One is old and one is a Gnome Gnote. I installed a Gnome Gnote and it worked, for a while, with a Gnote file that I have been using for years. Now, nothing is working. The new gnote no longer works nor can I read any files from that installation. I have no idea what is going on. I have removed my installation and re-installed from app center which may be the problem. I have no idea what to do next. I can, for instance, read my existing Gnote file which I have used for years but, apparently, even though the new one actually read it that is no longer the case. I really like Gnote. Is there anyway I can bail myself out of my mess?
