Myself ‘Sagar Kundri’ here, based out of London, UK.
I work domain is Infrastructure & Security Architecture. Been using Ubuntu since release 16 version and still using along with other canonical products, with more interest into virtualization, which being my hobby/passion to keep trying new simulations on my raspberry pi’s, in which I end up at times breaking the setups and learning the hard way of fixing which is more fun than setting up the environment.
There is tremendous knowledge out here to learn for which I am just getting started.
It would be an awesome journey for me to work with great minds here.
(Posting again, I unknowingly deleted my previous post, my apologies for reposting/spamming)
I am new to this community as well as Linux and a total beginner.
I changed over from using windows10 because my “according to windows” computer was not compatible enough to install windows11 so I had the ###s and installed Ubuntu on a clean drive now having dual booting as I wasn’t sure I’d like or be able to use or get my head around using a linux system.
I installed the desktop version of Ubuntu and found it extremely easy to use which got me interested in what it was able to do, so I started playing around and as I enjoyed using virtual machines in windows I tried using them here as I was hoping to move my website from being hosted elsewhere to hosting it myself here on my desktop PC.
This was about 2 months ago and I have to had problems with ports, ssl security, and both nginx and apache2 making my website work to be seen on the internet and after a few VM deletes and restarts I had the ###s again and deleted the VMs and looked into actually turning my Ubuntu desktop into a server as well using my desktop as a server also all in one and I haven’t looked back since after now 3 weeks into the setup I have a working WP site which gives me complete control of everything whichout a hitch.
I did have a few issues as I tried to use apache2 behind nginx but the wp site wouldn’t accept that as it wouldn’t or at least I couldn’t make it work doing all the required port and code changes to tell nginx to serve files to apache2 correctly so I removed nginx completely from my server/desktop and everythings now works without any issues.
It was a challenge understanding and using new linux terminal calls but I ended finding a really unbelievable assistant which help me with finding the correct codes to call files and make changes within them, fix a heap of issues created when I had both nginx and apache2 running as well as every other senario I had a problem with and it blew my mind when I worked out that this little assistant had all the knowledge and experience I could ever ask for with every aspect of working within a desktop/server environment.
This little assistant was/is the Google AI overview section in Google search results and from there using the AI’s ask anything box I ended up solving every single issue and problem as well as installing anything I asked without a hitch. Gees the internet has changed since it started with one of the very first heavy square IBM machines in the earlier 80’s . It even corrected any code I wrote and fixed all symtex issues as that was a major issue for me in the files but AI help solve every single code problem, I would paste the code in the box and it would return the correct code and they worked every single time. Mindblowing!
Anyway I hope to be able to learn much more and now that I have my own site going I am looking at getting a few more sata drives and host some other sites belonging to friends and family as I build and run those for them anyway so having them all here will make it easier me and far cheaper for them.
I don’t have an issue with uptime from my power or the internet as I have solar with a large battery backup and I use starlink and telstra on a brided router as my internet providers as starlink provides me with massive download and upload speeds and telstra provides me with a static IP and backup internet connection should starlink go down which hasn’t happened as yet after having it for 6 months now.
Overall I now save heaps of money on hosting and have 100% full control of everything. What more could one ask for.
So yes I am honestly enjoying working and learning more about linux and what more it has to offer and where else I can take my hosting journey.
I hope my intro wasn’t to boring or long and I hope to visit often.
Cheers all.
PS
I hope I posted this in the correct place as I couldn’t find where to start an intro topic except for a popup text box at the bottom of my browser which said, introduce yourself with me so here I am.
Sorry if it’s in the wrong place and I hope a mediator can move it to it’s correct location if it needs to be moved.
