PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document

I have an issue:

I wanted to open and edit this document :

https://www.echr.coe.int/d/application_form_nld

file:///tmp/mozilla_rapkc7490/Application_Form_NLD-2.pdf

from European Court of Human Rights
but I can not in any program I have available on my Linux computer. I get this kind of massage :

Please wait…

If this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of the document, your PDF
viewer may not be able to display this type of document.

You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader for Windows®, Mac, or Linux® by
visiting http://www.adobe.com/go/reader_download.

For more assistance with Adobe Reader visit http://www.adobe.com/go/acrreader.

It looks like it is : XFA-based PDF form. XFA (XML Forms Architecture) or XFA Forms are a technology developed by Adobe Systems. XFA provides dedicated templates within fillable fields, which determine the form’s appearance and layout. Usually, XFA documents are created in Adobe LiveCycle.

Do you have any idea how to open and edit it?
I have tried here : https://get.adobe.com/reader/otherversions
but there is no Linux verssion.

I do not want to open the file in the browser. I want to be able to save it and be able to fill it up and correct offline. This is a court form and it will take me a while to fill it up ,correct it . …and when all ready I can print ,sign and send by post.

Someone closing my post !

I do not have a chance even properly to ask the question yet and this guy closed my two posts already :

**guiverc

Could you stop to close my posts before I have a chance to ask fully a question !**

Someone does not understand here that we have users from different countries whose English is not their native language. It takes more time before something is explained not in your mother language.
I have not yet had time to explain fully everything and the moderator closes my post.
Well an extremely frustrating situation. Not only is it extra work to explain something in a language that is not your own, but now the moderator creates an extra task to do and you have to write the third post already.

I moved your post to Site Feedback, which is the more appropriate place to address this issue.

Please be patient while the volunteer moderating staff review the situation.

Thanks

The moderator has closed your post after you stated that you are not running Ubuntu, only Ubuntu is supported on this forum, you seem to have stated you are running debian, so you should ask in a debian forum instead …

I have : Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS

Is it not Ubuntu Forum ?

It is, but in the conversation in your first thread you said something different, which made the moderator close the post since debian and Ubuntu are different and we can only support Ubuntu here …

In Menu of my computer I get : Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS

I said Linux debian as I can download .deb files .

This is all I know about debian and what it is.

So : if I get in menu of my computer : Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS

Is it a proper forum for me or not?

Yes, it is and if @guiverc sees this he will surely happily re-open the thread again, just be aware that debian and Ubuntu are completely different products even if they use the same package format to deliver their applications…

@molar I moved your post for a good reason, so we could review.

Please do not move posts again until we get back to you.

I understand you want to try and resolve your issue, and we are happy to help now that the confusion has been cleared up.

I will merge your posts so everything is in one place…please wait until I am done.

Thanks

Thank you.

I keep in mind that I need to find out what is a difference between Ubuntu and Debian to avoid future misunderstandings

You’ve not provided any Ubuntu product & release details of what you’re using, thus we’re somewhat limited.

I clicked on your provided link, hit the “Click to download document”, and on my system it just opened in my browser, and I can edit it directly, and click the icon to PRINT or SAVE it with my changes (ie. text in the various fields…)

I switched to a different browser (this time not the Ubuntu default for my product/release) and that browser responded as you mentioned, ie.

but by using the Ubuntu default browser; I did NOT experience that issue.

What Ubuntu product & release are you using? what browser/software are you using?

I have a LINUX DEBIAN.

I do not want to open the file in the browser. I want to be able to save it and be able to fill it up and correct. This is a court form and it will take me a while to fill it up ,correct it . …and when all ready I can print ,sign and send by post.

I can confirm this. Chromium based browsers couldn’t.

Knowing this, just use Firefox. No need to be searching for additional software and of the 3 or 4 I’ve tried most could open it but not edit the form.

If you note the Support and Help Guidelines the supported Ubuntu products & releases are listed.

You’ll note no Debian listed there, thus I’ve closed this question, as it’s outside of the Support and Help rules.

You may wish to refer back to this thread you started this past November:

I will try to but as it is a bit different issue I am not sure if the other conversation can help me.

By the way the PDF EDITOR : PDF EDITOR

it was an extremely informative topic. I learned very good solutions that I now use all the time and which greatly help me with the task I have to perform.
After some time, I wanted to continue the topic and ask about more things. It turned out that this could not be done because the topic was closed.
I don’t understand this approach at all. How can you close a topic for subsequent questions that arise over time? How can you close a topic for questions that others will have when they find this topic later in the future?
I don’t understand.
