Operation System not found: MBR/Legacy machine

I installed different versions of Linux on a Dell System Inspiron N7110.
After a reboot I received this message, Operation System not found.

Kernel: 6.8.0-51-generic
CPU: Intel i5-2410M (4) @ 2.900GHz
GPU: Intel 2nd Generation Core Proce
Memory: 776MiB / 5838MiB
The computer is a MBR/Legacy machine

I cannot find an answer to this problem?

Which flavour and version of Ubuntu?

Did you boot the installer USB in Legacy mode?

Right now I have Linux Mint and it is in Legacy mode

When we install Ubuntu as the only operating system on the machine we do not get a boot menu (Grub). The machine will follow the instructions in Basic Input Output System chip and look for an operating system on the internal drive or disk.

When we install Ubuntu alongside other operating systems we always get a Grub boot menu and we can choose which operating system to load.

Do you see a Grub boot menu. Are you selecting Ubuntu or some other operating system. Have you entered the machine’s BIOS utility to confirm that the motherboard will look to the internal drive for an operating system?

If the BIOS is still set to look for an operating system on a USB memory stick then the BIOS will give out that message because the USB memory stick has been removed. We need to set the BIOS to look for an operating system on the internal drive before we let the machine reboot. In my opinion.

I just closed this thread as outside of the Support and Help guidelines and supported systems mentioned as per @tea-for-one post.

Linux Mint provide their own support options, or you can use a generic Linux support site too.

When you go to a site appropriate for your chosen OS, don’t forget to provide specifics as to what you’re running; kernel detail you provided tells me/us little about the system’s actual boot; as that is usually set by the last system installed in a dualboot environment, with dualboot disabled by default with GRUB code used by upstream & many OSes (Ubuntu carries patches that allow an easier dualboot if detected at install time, many OSes do not though). Not all systems use GRUB either.
