I have been trying to install Ubuntu 25.04 but whenever I boot in and click on 'try or install Ubuntu β the logo comes up and the pc shutdowns, something it shutdowns instantly ( I am trying in uefi mode ) . I have to boot using safe graphics mode every time. I have checked the drivers but it shows them properly .
My PC has boot mode set to uefi and legacy oprom . When I boot using the usb storage device option shown under legacy options , it boots but a error comes ( something like faux_drivers ) but still get me to the installation page and everything continues and after the installation I try to boot but every time it boots me in the windows no matter what ever i choose . I think It make it bootable in bios mode in uefi or something else.
I have a dell Inspiron 3552
Cpu- pentium N3710
Rame - 8GB
Intel hd graphics
I have tried the 22.04 lts version also.
Same issues come with other linux distros too
Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse
Letβs try something to see if we can isolate the problem.
Getting Under The Hood
- Boot the live USB and when you get to the menu with Try or Install Ubuntu press Eon the keyboard
- Navigate with the arrow keys and find the line that starts with
linux /casper/vmlinuz ...
- The end of the line should show the words
quiet splash
- Use the spacebar to add a space and then type this
i915.modeset=0
- The end of the line should now look like this
quiet splash i915.modeset=0
- Press Ctrl + X or F10 to continue the boot process
Are you able to proceed without blank screens or shutdowns and does it get to the desktop installer?
If yes, are you able to install successfully?
This change on the boot line is not permanent but we can make it so if it works.
Instead of i915.modeset=0 you can repeat the same process as above but also try nomodeset or acpi=off
First we need to figure out which option might work in your situation before investigating other options.
Important Note:
Make sure you have backups of important data before doing anything so that if something goes wrong you can restore it.
Is it like the safe graphics mode ? Or different ?
Not exactly the same.
If I understand correctly, your Intel graphics are pretty old at this point.
Therefore, the idea is to try some alternatives to get you up and running.
This might not work but I thought it was worthwhile at least trying.
Try Xubuntu 24.04 or Lubuntu 24.04
May be more suitable for your PC
Disable Legacy boot option
