No sound on headphones but sound on HDMI. ASUS Xonar DSX

Ubuntu Support Template

Ubuntu Version:
Ubuntu 24.04.3 LTS
Linux 6.14.0-37-generic

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
GNOME version 46, I think?

Problem Description:
I get no sound on headphones.
I have an ASUS Xonar DSX PCI-Ex card.

I get sound on HDMI through my Sky Glass TV.

I have tried re-seating cables and ensured headphones are connected to the headphone jack on the rear.

I have tried the advice I have found around forums, like checking with alsamixer that it isn’t muted and that it is selected and got volume. I am a Windows person, so I am not all too familiar with Linux.

I initially tried installing OpenSUSE. Spent all evening trying to fix this but eventually giving up, telling myself I must have broken some setting during the early install. Like, I did experiment with trying to install AMD’s driver and some other things. So, I figured I’d try a clean install and to be “safe” I’d try with Ubuntu instead, as it is more mainstream and hoped it was more likely to “just work”. But, I get the exact same problem.

The card is identified by Ubuntu and the detailed Sound control panel is indicating sound is playing, by that “VU meter” bopping around, but it’s dead silent in my headphones.

The sound card works fine with Windows, so I am certain it isn’t a hardware issue.
