Problem Description:
I just bought an Asus Vivobook 14s and installed Ubuntu 26.04 in a dual boot configuration.
Initially all works well but after a while the mouse didn’t respond any more.
The mouse works on the login screen and under Windows 11. Also the attachment of an external USB-mouse works.
What can I do ?

What type of mouse is it, Bluetooth or USB? Wireless? Does the touchpad still work when it happens?
If it’s a wireless USB mouse, my first guess would be on USB power save mode kicking in and disabling the wireless dongle. Does it only happen on battery power or on AC power as well? A somewhat easy way to check if power saving is enabled is to run sudo powertop in a terminal and go to the “Tunables” Tab. When it says “Good” it’s actually bad in this context, because it means automatic power saving is enabled; you can toggle modes by pressing Enter or Space.
Sorry, it is the touchpad that doesn’t work. My fault not knowing the terminology.

Are you dual-booting with Windows 11 - apparently you are because “the mouse works (…) under Windows 11” -? If so disable Windows’ Fast Startup “feature”, shutdown properly and try again in Ubuntu.
Apparently ASUS has some quirky touchpads, because they have this support document with some things to try and revive it. Also, seeing that Fn combos are involved, perhaps you inadvertently disabled it yourself? IIRC from my last hands-on with a slightly older Vivobook of a friend, by default Fn lock is enabled, i.e. F1-F12 are in Hotkey mode, so pressing F6 or F9, for instance, will toggle the touchpad on/off.

I now realise that not only Windows but also Ubuntu have touchpad options in their settings something that solved the problem.

The touchpad had somehow been disabled.
The problem was simply solved by me enabling touchpad in the mouse & touchpad settings.
