No audio 24.04 LTS on x99 chipset MB with Realtek ALC1150

I’m a noob trying to get audio working and can’t seem to accomplish it after trying several resources from the search result “no audio ubuntu studio 24.04”. This includes downloading and installing the latest Realtek drivers for this package (Linux driver 3.0, version 5.18rc8, dated 2018/10/30), and attempting to revert to pulseaudio. When trying to run pulseaudio, pipewire was automatically reinstalled. Running the Pulseaudio Volume Control gets stuck on “Establishing a connection to PulseAudio. Please wait…”

Ubuntu Version:
24.04 LTS

Desktop Environment (if applicable):
KDE Plasma

Problem Description:
I have no audio. No audio device detected, no headphone/mic function.

inxi -A returns this:

Audio:
Device-1: Intel C610/X99 series HD Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
Device-2: NVIDIA GP107GL High Definition Audio driver: snd_hda_intel
  API: ALSA v: k6.8.0-59-lowlatency status: kernel-api

When booting, speakers just pop. Headphones have no output.

I’ve checked all connections and everything is correctly connected.

Thanks.

Welcome to Ubuntu Discourse

Lots of good information and troubleshooting steps here:

Most computers/system board will have an option for system diagnostics on boot by using a specific key, If you have that, check the various options to see if the sound works properly. If you have another OS installed, does sounds work on it OR did sound work on the ‘live’ usb/DVD used to install?

Thanks - I should have just done all of that with the first post, sorry. Here are all the things - clearly there are issues to address - e.g. those several connection refused messages - if I only knew how to resolve them!

Thank you. I read somewhere that pressing F12 while clicking restart gets one into the Ubuntu diagnostics, but haven’t tried it yet (I will do that next). There’s no such diagnostics with my Gigabyte MB, I don’t think.

I don’t have another OS installed, but this install did replace a Win10Pro install in which the sound (all 5.1 surround of it) worked beautifully. I didn’t try it during a live DVD session - I just installed Ubuntu.
