That’s nice if you could bring them here that would be helpful for the handover process. Do you also have any contact for Ishwor Gurung?
Btw, @younggunner14 I don’t see any of 3 folks (including you) Launchpad profile showing Signed Ubuntu Code of Conduct: Yes. Don’t forget to sign Ubuntu CoC on launchpad
Just sent a message to Ishwor Gurung in Launchpad using the Contact button on launchpad profile. hope it would work I’ll try few more ways to reach out this folk.
@aadarshadhakalg Glad that you guys are taking this over. Anything I can help with? I’m not actively in touch with most of the original team members these days, but let me try to reach out.
@jwalanta Thank you, dai! We are struggling to contact the past members of the community. I think Mr Ishwor Gurung’s participation is crucial to smoothening this process. If you could bring them here for this discussion, that would be of much help. Also, the new team needs your guidance and suggestions moving forward.
Hello folks, So I’ve contacted Ishwor Gurung (current owner of Nepal LoCo Launchpad team). And he agreed to handover Nepalese LoCo to prospective leaders.
Who will be the main contact person and who will be backup contacts? Could you add this info on “List of prospective leaders” table?
Could at least one of prospective leaders register pgp key on launchpad? So that you can receive dns key for ubuntu-**.org later if you need. - You may do this later handover process complete.
We have received some concerns privately that most of foss activities in Nepal seem to be quite centralized with Students from Xt. Savier’s College which might lead to potential sustainability and diversity issues (Something like what if current generation of those folks all graduate, get hired and busy then nobody left to continue leading those local foss chapters?) - Do you also have any plans to also involve students from other universities as well as people with career fields on the team in near future?
Those concerns are totally invalid. Among the prospective leaders list, I am the only one who is a student from St. Xavier’s College. Both of others are of different colleges. Even the college levels we are in are different. Sailesh has already graduated.
Fun fact is even among the folks in the UbuCon Asia 2025 Local team, there are only two students from St. Xavier’s College and all of others are from different college across the valley. There is a mix of undergraduate and already graduated folks.
So, I guess this prove the private concerns invalid.
Also, since the foss activities we are currently involved in isn’t college or university based, so we don’t have to worry on the folks getting graduated from the college. They will still continue to contribute.
For the concern on the present generation getting hired and busy in future, we are also well aware of this problem, since I think it was the same case with the previous Ubuntu Nepal loco folks too ( they might have got busy with their life and the loco went inactive ) . There is already a strong sense of handover process and building future leaders within the community itself. We believe in providing opportunities to juniors and newcomers and mentor them to be capable enough to lead the initiatives in the future.
I am happy to see that the Nepalese LoCo is back and rebooting itself. There were plenty of efforts in the past and some dormant few years. While, we tried putting things together through local initiatives and bringing global engagements, things were slow and now they are taking shape in itself as organic as possible. Happy to see proactive leadership assumption and request for handover. I wish new team a success while thanking those who paved the way and kept connecting the dots in their own ways. Present is always sum total of past efforts. Good Luck.
