My Dell XPS 15 9520 and Ubuntu 26.04 Fresh install

So I had 24.04 LTS installed and I decided I would just do a fresh install of 26.04.

When I installed 24.04 there were a lot of issues I had to fix.

Logitech G535 headset issues. I always had to click the volume button and move the sound volume around to get it to kick in. The volume would be faint until I did and yes I did all of the fixes online trying to get it to work finally I had to install a 3rd party app to get it to work right.

Random drivers and Nvidia issues I had to fix.

The processor on 24.04 seemed to always run about 10% hotter. I know it has a little bit to do with my outdated dock and multiple monitors( I need to update it)

The lack of customizing the desktop. I had to install dock and other add-ins ect…

But wow! 26.04 has fixed everything! Sound works great! The desktop is super easy to customize and move the bar to the middle!(The little things are always nice lol)

I have Secureboot on and FDE.

The only issues I am seeing so far is that Ubuntu pro is showing an error which from what I read it is due to some base files not updated to LTS which will be fixed on an update. I just attached it in the CLI for now.

Also the disk encryption seems to be having recognizing as well. Maybe because of the same files?

Thank you all for the hard work! I know it’s early but man what a sweet fresh install!

The way I’ve read it, there may be two issues, but the one you’re seeing can be manually fixed. Some people have already confirmed that it works for them, even without fixing up /etc/os-release.

Or, just do that.

Yup that worked great! Thanks!

Now if I can figure out how to get it to find the FDE encryption. I am not worried just OCD lol.

I can’t say I know much about that, but maybe it’s another connection that’s required:

snap connections desktop-security-center

That should get you a list like this:

For demonstration I have disconnected it from the snap-fde-control interface; note the - in the Slot column. It was enabled by default, though.

Did you select the FDE option at installation time? You cannot enable it at any later point.

Mind you, I am still on 24.04.

Yes it is encrypted with it. I have to enter the password every time I boot up. When I type that command it is showing it in the slot section. I am guessing it is another file not named correctly or something. Going to dig into it more tomorrow.
