Multiple monitor support broken in 25.10

Ubuntu Support Template

Ubuntu Version: 25.10

Desktop Environment (if applicable): Gnome

Problem Description: When using multiple monitors on a clean install of Ubuntu Desktop 25.10 programs quite often become unresponsive when dragged to a different monitor

Open VLC
VLC appears on a monitor
Drag VLC onto a different monitor
VLC no longer functions. Hover events stop working, clicking the X, maximize or minimize buttons do not work, expanding program dimensions doesn’t work

Relevant System Information:

NVIDIA GPU
NVIDIA 590 open drivers
Displays are virtually created through Pipewire nodes

Yes, I am frantically clicking as I move my mouse around.

What I’ve Tried:

Moving monitor layouts around. 50% of the time fixes it the other 50% puts windows partially inside invisible areas and remain unresponsive. For example

a 4 b
3 2 5
c 6 d

Open VLC, VLC opens on 5
Drag VLC to 2
VLC stops working
Drag screen 5 up slightly towards b. Apply
VLC appears in the center point of a, 4, 3 and 2. A quarter out of bounds

Toggling fractional scaling forces some refreshing that sometimes solves it. But toggling fractional scaling multiple times every time I want to use my PC isn’t a solution.

Notes

This did not happen on Ubuntu 24.04.4 LTS.

My account doesn’t exist anymore and they won’t send me a reset password link so I’m forced to make a new one.

When the window is dragged to a different screen and becomes unresponsive using xwininfo on it shows mutter guard window instead of the actual program. This is clearly not intentional and is still broken on a fresh and updated install of 25.10.

I am unable to test this on Ubuntu 26 as GStreamer is unusable due to reasons I’m unsure of.
