I am testing Ubuntu 24.04 LTS at the moment. I have installed Wine 10.0 and am trying to run a Windows game called ‘The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Redux’. It was installed from a GOG off-line installer. The Wine install / prefix is 64 bit. I have tried to add vc++ runtime redist 2015 - 2022. I have downloaded and added the DXVK dll’s into the game folder. nVidia 580 Ubuntu approved driver. Vulkan is installed correctly according to vulkaninfo. My wired USB mouse is a Razer Basilisk v3.
The game runs (albeit not as well as on Windows) while I am only pressing movements keys on the keyboard. As soon as I move the mouse… whoa!! Everything is horribly choppy, skipping and messed up. If I leave the mouse alone, the game kind of works. But I need it to look around (mouse look).
Changing the polling rate by clicking one of the in-built mouse buttons makes no difference.
Has anyone else experienced this? Know what can be done to fix it?
There is no wine 10.x in the 24.04 archive, that indicates you installed from a third party source.
You should seek support where you got the packages from since we do not really know what is done/changed inside or what requirements they have over the supported packages in the ubuntu archive …
Have you tried installing Wine 9 from the official archive (uninstall Wine 10 first)? I am guessing you have and had the problem so went to v10. The latest versions of software (especially if they are from a 3rd party source) are not always better/the route to go down.
After further testing, it seems that this problem is related to the one specific game mentioned and not Ubuntu / Wine performance in general. I have other games running and the mouse works fine.
