We host Mir Office Hours every month

Everyone is welcome. No prior arrangements are necessary. You don’t need to sign-up, or register. Just click on the link to join, for as little or as much time as you can spare, at any time during the event.

In the past we’ve tried alternating this western-friendly time with an apac-friendly one but as the latter was only attended by Mir team members we chose to keep to a time when the community can participate.

We’ve had contact with a community member that cannot make this time (middle of their night). If there are more of you out there, then please let us know and we will try to accommodate you in future.

Notes

Mir 2.30 Release and Build Requirements

  • Mir 2.30 released earlier than usual with contributions from Tom and Yash.

  • Building Mir 2.30 requires Rust as a mandatory build dependency.

Display Configuration and Output Management

  • The Wayland ecosystem currently lacks a standardized display configuration protocol.

  • A new API for output configuration is scheduled for version 2.31.

Miracle Development Updates

  • Miracle version 0.11 introduced workspace overview modes and improved animations.

  • The upcoming version 0.12 development cycle focuses on wobbly windows.

Ext Foreign Buffer Protocol

  • Landed the protocol definition for ext foreign buffer v1 in Mir.

  • The protocol enables live image captures like alt-tab switchers without exposing content.

  • We have plans to open it up for review in the Freedesktop wayland-protocols repository soon

Documentation and Version Maintenance

  • Documentation reorganization removed the stable tag in favor of the latest release.

  • Supported versions include latest, 2.30, 2.28, and 2.17 for security fixes.

Debian Packaging Status

  • Debian packaging requires promoting version 2.29 to unstable before adopting version 2.30.

  • Rust requirements in version 2.30 may prompt temporary adherence to version 2.29.

Ubuntu Touch Mir 2 Migration

  • Ubuntu Touch is migrating the user session to Mir 2.

  • Dual building qtmir supports both Mir 1 and Mir 2 configurations.

  • A first showcase for the migration targets the end of October.
