Mir Office Hours - 2026-06-03 15:15UTC

We host Mir Office Hours every month

Everyone is welcome. No prior arrangements are necessary. You don’t need to sign-up, or register. Just click on the link to join, for as little or as much time as you can spare, at any time during the event.

In the past we’ve tried alternating this western-friendly time with an apac-friendly one but as the latter was only attended by Mir team members we chose to keep to a time when the community can participate.

We’ve had contact with a community member that cannot make this time (middle of their night). If there are more of you out there, then please let us know and we will try to accommodate you in future.

Agenda

  1. Actions from previous meeting
  2. Mir 2.28 plan
  3. Ubuntu Summit
  4. Miriway incoming
  5. Miracle plugin system
  6. SSD PR
  7. Any Other Business

If you have any questions you’d like us to answer or topics to cover, please feel free to ask them live, or leave them as comments below - we’ll be able to prepare better and select some to make space for in the agenda

Notes

We’ll post notes from each meeting in a comment below for posterity and discussion.

Recordings

We record/transcribe the main section of the meeting for publishing, but only the speaker is visible in the recording - and you can disable your video if you wish.
We shut this off after the agenda is exhausted and there’s time for more casual discussion after.

Notes

  • Mir 2.27 was burned due to a workflow issue, so 2.28 will be the next release.

  • Neil is interested in whether or not we are willing to release Mir according to a stricter schedule (e.g. once every month or three months).

  • Miracle’s usage of Mir internal often causes trouble in upgrading the Mir Fedora package

    • Miracle should try and release more often to mitigate this, as it does build against main in its CI, but sometimes it doesn’t release it until much later.
  • Miracle’s lighting talk about its new plugin system was broadcasted during the Ubuntu Summit: https://youtu.be/Q5ysMzeqook?t=21424

  • Discussion around Simon’s SSD PR: https://github.com/canonical/mir/pull/4991

    • We discussed whether or not enabling out-of-process SSDs for the first version was overly complicated for what we want to accomplish here
  • Miriway will be released with a new version shortly after Mir 2.28 ships.

    • This will include a built-in Alt + Tab switcher

Action Items

  • Saviq: publish the Mir roadmap in the docs
  • Alan: improve how-to-contribute stories
  • Matt: explore implementation of experimental APIs in miral to accommodate the fancier things that Miracle is doing
