Maze 26.04 Beta Window Border does Not accept custom theme

On Ubuntu Mate 26.04 Beta IT does not accept custom Window Border themes after Relogin iT Switches to yaru. Please let it Accept User defined themes Like in gnome 2. It can be fixed with settings a dconf value in Autostart but that is Not User friendly.

I want Redmond or Leopard Like Window borders or my own Style, Not yaru. Yaru is not an Option. And its okayish as Default but Not AS User defined theme… Start theming Apps now. As it is possible in gtk2 and GTK3 and gtk4(without libadwaita)!!

Have you read this topic?

Ubuntu Mate seeking maintainers

It does not apply to you as you are not a programmer. It does affect you. I suspect that there is little prospect of your demands being met. They do sound like demands. Do you not realize that? I do not think that the maintainers of Ubuntu Mate are in a position to work on even requests.

Are you sure this is Ubuntu MATE 26.04 beta?

There are, as far as we know, no plans to release a 26.04 version this time.

See response in the next post regarding the status of Ubuntu MATE.

If you are on Ubuntu with a MATE desktop that you downloaded, then this is the wrong category for such questions.

Please clarify the situation.

Thanks

There is a Mate 26.04 Beta:

This Version exist.

Ubuntu Mate features the appearence settings Dialog. So its Not a feature requests, neither a true Bug Report AS IT IS Buggy per Design.

The only images I see for Ubuntu MATE resolute (26.04) are at Index of /ubuntu-mate/releases/26.04 where they are all old alpha images; the latest from Feburary, so more than a month ago.

Not long after the last snapshot, the daily images started failing to build, and as others have already stated, there were no team members able to explore & correct problems. Some Ubuntu community people did suggest solutions (and actually submitted some), but no-one from Ubuntu-MATE reviewed & approved them. Ubuntu MATE never got to beta.

The last successful build I see of Ubuntu MATE is 2026-03-04 which was alpha. You can contrast ISO dates at https://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/476/builds with others, and you’ll see how stale the Ubuntu MATE images/ISOs are.

That image you’re looking at is an alpha ISO; see the link in my prior paragraph. The link you gave is for the one in the [second] link I provided; contrast the dates of the ISO with dates in the link I provided, then constrast date with other dailies… ie. Ubuntu-MATE is a very old ISO/image and still alpha (and not even a late alpha image).

As per the previous post, you are actually looking at an alpha release.

As such, bugs/issues are the norm and expected.

I recommend you choose either a stable release like Ubuntu 24.04 or wait for 26.04 to be released next month.

Okay thanks a Lot for the information. Is xubuntu still mantained? If Not i’ll Switch Back to mint. Im very sad about what seems to happen at Ubuntu Mate. This means the project is currently discontinued. Was so Happy that Global Menus worked again and yes its a nice Version, but If its unmantained i need to use xubuntu or Mint. Damn.but thanks for the honest informations

Look back at the ISO QA tracker link I provided…

The Ubuntu MATE ISO was dated 2026-03-04 (old & alpha), yet if you look at the page I provided, Xubuntu is 2026-03-31, which if you check the current date is very current !

I would go with Xubuntu if it was my choice.
