Calling all artists, graphic designers and avid fans of interstellar crustaceans…
It’s time for the Ubuntu 23.04 (Lunar Lobster) wallpaper competition! With the upcoming release just a few short months away, we want to ensure the next release is packed with some amazing community wallpapers.
As in competitions past, we’ll be collecting submissions here on the Ubuntu Discourse via this thread. After the submission window closes, members of the community can vote on their favorite entries. The top FIVE EIGHT submissions will be included in the Ubuntu 23.04 Lunar Lobster release image!
If you’d like to join in the fun, there are a few important rules to keep out of hot water:
- You must own the rights to the image you are submitting, it should be your original work of art.
- The full quality image must be 3840x2160px. We ask that submissions not exceed 10MB. PNG or JPEG formats are acceptable.
- Please ensure you create a high quality image. Avoid image compression artifacts, pixelation, chromatic aberration and noise. Please do not add any watermarks, names or logos. See also these helpful guidelines from GNOME on screen backgrounds.
- When posting your image, please include a note that you are licensing the image as CC BY-SA 4.0 or CC BY 4.0. If you do not specify a license we will assume CC BY-SA 4.0. By entering the competition you are agreeing to these license terms.
- Along with your artwork, please include a title and your Twitter handle so we can properly tag you.
- Submissions don’t have to be codename (Lobster) themed. We love seeing all kinds of diverse artwork.

2023-01-10T00:00:00Z - Submission window opens
2023-02-06T00:00:00Z - Submission window closes and start of voting period
2023-02-17T00:00:00Z - Voting period closes
2023-02-17T02:00:00Z - The Winners are announced and chosen wallpapers are reviewed then sent to the packaging team for inclusion in Lunar Lobster!

This is my submission; the image is a vector image but this version was exported from SVG to PNG via Inkscape (Ubuntu Discourse does not allow image uploads to SVG) but this is truly my first ever published vector image and first one I have ever made that isn’t an adaptation of someone else’s work or is text-only.
