Lubuntu 26.04 will have support for X11?

Hello. Thanks for reading my topic.
Lubuntu next version 26.04 will have support for X11 ?
I have used Lubuntu since 2020 working correctly with my computer.
Here the video card not work correctly in wayland. The solution is continue using X11.
Thanks Lubuntu developers for making that good light and efficient distro.
Have an nice week.

As mentioned in the Lubuntu blog, the plan is to move to labwc as the default compositor. That means Wayland will be the default display protocol for Lubuntu moving forward. Wayland does have XWayland as a compatibility layer for X11 only apps.

What PC are you running Lubuntu on? If it’s maybe… 12 years old or newer it should be OK on 26.04.

More details here in the blog, check the 09 Oct entry under Technical Notes, second paragraph:

https://lubuntu.me/blog/

Oh yes … I had seen about changes to labwc.

I want Lubuntu developers allow the user to change to X11 session changing settings.

I not want change to other distro and removing support to X11 is an wrong action.

Is good having support to openbox and SDDM. Thus the user can continue using X11.

My video card is an GT 640 using nvidia driver 470 not working correctly in wayland.

I want continue using X11.

470 was abandoned by Nvidia and already not installing properly in the newer kernels 24.04 runs with. Because of this Wayland or not is a moot point, you won’t be using Nvidia proprietary drivers with that card in 26.04.

Not … nvidia driver 470 work in kernel new versions … I use in kernel 6.14 … see link below

https://gist.github.com/joanbm

It works for you… Great. It doesn’t for a few users in threads here and elsewhere.

The point is 470 won’t be available in 26.04. It isn’t in 25.10 already. You may try to install it directly from Nvidia binaries then. Good luck with that.

When an kernel new version is released is created an new patch for it.

Thus is possible continue using if the distro has support for X11.

I want an reply from Lubuntu devs about that topic.

Honestly… Which part of Nvidia driver 470 won’t be available in the official repository in 26.04 don’t you understand?

Also X11 is over, end of story. And this is a community forum. While many devs may lurk around here this isn’t the place for feature requests and even if it was your unfriendly tone would be ignored.

my messages not are unfriendly … I simply try create simple messages …

Have much users needing X11 even for today … if you are an user like using all new and updated we are not discussing the same topic.

I understand Lubuntu need update some components to support wayland, but removing X11 is an wrong idea because LXQT, QT , Openbox and SDDM does support to X11.

I only want understand if is possible configure Lubuntu 26.04 to run in X11 using SDDM and Openbox.

Your posts have a demanding tone - I want… - as opposed to what could be a polite request.

Anyway, the answer is no for the reasons explained or implied several times already.

Not every time “i want” means demanding … I want continue using Lubuntu using X11.
Peoples of good heart understand possibility it’s not someone demanding or giving orders.

In this context it comes as demanding. Even in business where you ask for something - product, service -, and the formula “I want X” is generally accepted, many people prefer “I would like X, please” and “thank you”.

And again, this isn’t the place to make such requests and you would be wasting your time anyway. And need I mention again that you’ll be using nouveau anytime very soon and that makes the point about X11 totally moot?

Here’s an additional suggestion: Save your energy to ask Nvidia for continued support for your legacy hardware. Be as demanding as you wish, you’re their customer.

The x11 session will still be available.

Thanks for your reply. All good with you ?

I had switched from other OS to Linux and so using Lubuntu since 2020.

Lubuntu developers have done wonderful good deeds in my direction and so I not want to use another distro and continue supporting Lubuntu, but I need continue using X11.

Lubuntu developers are correct in add support to wayland in next version. However has much users using X11 yet.

In next version will switch to labwc.

You had replied X11 session will be available in next 26.04.

Lubuntu next version 26.04 has SDDM for user login and Openbox or the user need manually install it ?

No, in the next version for Lubuntu, Wayland will still be in experimental, therefore X11 will be the default session.

How’s Wayland and virtual machines these days?

I’ve been using GPU passthrough (with an NVIDIA card) and the only time I’m using virt-viewer is with an X11 desktop environment/window manager.

I do not think it is incorrect to say that Lubuntu developers depend on the progress of the LXQt developers. Please read the LXQt blog for some information.

LXQt blog regarding Wayland
