LiveUSB Later?

Is there a way to upgrade to the current most recent LTS and create the LiveUSB later?

I’m out of town visiting family, brought my laptop with me but left the LiveUSB at the house.

Hi, I hope you are doing well.

You can always create a live usb of Ubuntu. You can Google it or check out:

I bootable USB with Ubuntu on it is handy to have around but I generally only need it for installing on a new system. So if you did an upgrade you might not need to make one afterwards.

As for the options for upgrading your existing system to the latest LTS that really depends on what operating system you have currently. If you could provide more details about your current system and exactly what version of Ubuntu you want to upgrade to, someone might be able to point you in the correct direction. You could also try to put all that information into Google and see if give you any results that make sense with what you are trying to do.

I hope you get it figured out.

Currently Lubuntu 22.04

One can do an inplace release upgrade, though highly recommended to back up personal data just in the event of an issue upgrading.

sudo apt update
sudo apt upgrade
sudo do-release-upgrade

will take you from 22.04 to 24.04.

Will this copy only the basic “24.04” or will it copy the current most recent release? (i.e. “24.04.x”)

It will upgrade all packages to the most recent in the 24.04 repository - it is a good idea, however, to read the release notes prior to release-upgrading.

-safety is no accident-

If there isn’t a specific situation dictating that you upgrade while away from home, I strongly recommend postponing any such upgrade until you get to homebase, where you have all your support resources.
