Kubuntu, Nvidia, and Zink

Had issues with Youtube randomly totally freezing my ultra-quiet system.

Also excessive fan activity on my graphics card.

  • Operating System : Kubuntu 24.04
  • KDE Plasma Version : 5.27.12
  • KDE Frameworks Version : 5.115.0
  • Qt Version : 5.15.13ernel Version : 6.8.0-94-generic (64-bit)
  • Graphics Platform : X11
  • Processors : 12 × AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 6-Core Processor
  • Memory : 62,7 GiB of RAM
  • Graphics card : Nvidia GeForce RTX 3060
  • Graphics Processor : zink Vulkan 1.4
  • Motherboard Product Name : ASRock B550 Extreme4

TL/DR : Zink turned out to be the culprit.

I found and followed https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-install-nvidia-drivers-on-ubuntu-24-04

Method 3: Automatic Install using PPA repository

This installed the recommended driver.

Problem solved. No more freezes. Plus 0.0 fan activity on graphics card (easy control by Nvidia Server Settings > Thermal Settings).
