Kubuntu 24.04 and latest spotify Desktop notifications no longer work

Desktop notifications no longer work

since this week I don’t receive any Desktop Notifications from Spotify (Show desktop notifications when the song changes) anymore

In addition, with the newest version the toggle “Show desktop notifications when the song changes” under settings => display is gone. This is very odd.

Happens on Fedora KDE 43 too. Have tried snap, rpm, flatpak versions..

I have posted on Spotify’s desktop linux forums… just wondering if anyone has had this issue and were able to fix it

Jup, seeing the same issue. I am wondering why no one is talking about this

What’s to talk about? It’s up to Spotify to fix so until they do users will just have to use as is, or downgrade to a version where it still works.

I can tell you that the snap version in the candidate channel has fixed a couple of issues that users complained about. One is that Spotify now displays the correct window decoration instead of the old chrome Win95-looking one it had. The other is the close app minimizes to system tray function works again. Notifications still doesn’t though. Maybe in the next update.

Edit: Just in case anyone is thinking of installing the updated version in the candidate channel, be aware that the canvas animations (animated album covers) no longer works. In fact, Video in general doesn’t work (podcasts, adverts) at least running in a Wayland session.
So realistically, Spotify is even more broke than it was. Sigh.
